Sheila Heti’s new book made me feel recognized and inspired, kind of like the first time I heard I heard Wittig paraphrased in a Valley Girl accent. Heti uses stupidity as a social rebuke, unseemly vulnerability in a show of self-assurance, friendship as a laboratory, and plain language to illuminate our most elaborate dilemmas as people and artists.
